The MgO–TiO<sub>2</sub>–SiO<sub>2</sub> system: experiments and thermodynamic assessment

Abstract Phase relations in the MgO–TiO 2 –SiO system have been investigated air a wide temperature range using equilibration method. X‐ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy combined with wave length spectroscopy (SEM/EPMA), and differential thermal analysis used for sample characterization. Based on obtained experimental results, isothermal sections of at 1523 K, 1673 1773 K established. The solid‐state invariant reaction MgTi O 5 +T‐SiO ⇄P‐MgSiO 3 +TiO has detected 1625±8 by step‐wise heat treatment. A partial liquidus projection suggested temperatures compositions three eutectic reactions experimentally measured DTA ex‐situ microstructures after melting SEM/EPMA.
